With the Vampire Academy series being six books long and this book marking the midpoint, surely Richelle Mead was going to have to throw some massive twist in to turn this series in a new, more urgent direction. Since Masons death, Rose has suffered from a lack of concentration, constant flashbacks, and bad dreams involving her friend. I must also add that listening to the audiobook is absolutely painful sometimes as the reader as such an obnoxious accent and reads the characters like they were some exaggerated stereotypical sitcom character. With the events of Frostbite having wrapped up so cleanly, I went into Shadow Kissed not really knowing what to expect. Considering the previous books were good, this book just strikes me as filler. The most frustrating aspect regarding this novel however is the complete lack of reasonable reactions from other characters, where Mead forces characters who are supposed to be smart and cunning to come to stupid conclusions based on very little information given in the story and comes across as a cheap way of forcing conflict into the story. This is mostly due to Richelle Mead’s writing lacking any sort of meaningful conflict and character growth. Shadow Kiss continues the story of the main character, Rose Hathaway and her education in becoming a Guardian. It is the third novel in the Vampire Academy series, and was preceded by Frostbite. Rose Hathaway is painfully inept in this addition to the vampire academy series, spending most of the novel making stupid decisions and feeling very sorry for herself. The writing style engaged me and followed plenty of plot twists without getting overly complicated.

I was completely invested in the characters and the story from the first page. The pacing of this book is boringly slow and for some reason the plot revolves around a court trial rather than dealing with anything actually worth reading about. Richelle Meads Vampire Academy is one of the best YA vampire series I have read.
